Environment Life Foundation (ELF) and Shivomay Yog and Wellness hold a programme on International Day of Yoga in Navi Mumbai that combines an open-air yoga session with an organised mangrove cleanup along the coastline. The event is themed “Pran and Paryavaran” (Life-Breath and Environment) and is presented as a way to connect personal well-being with environmental responsibility. About 40 volunteers participate despite light morning drizzle or rainfall. Yoga is conducted amid the mangroves and is led by Dipali Udiavar, an integrative yoga practitioner and psychotherapist and founder of Shivomay Yog and Wellness. ELF founder Dharmesh Barai links cleaner air, water and wetlands with healthier lives, and volunteers take a pledge to follow the “3R” principle—Reduce, Reuse and Recycle—to minimise waste and ensure responsible disposal. After the yoga session, ELF’s “Mangrove Soldiers” remove nearly 300 kg of waste, including plastic, thermocol, discarded footwear and biomedical waste. Organisers say the cleanup helps protect mangrove ecosystems by removing pollutants that obstruct mangrove aerial roots and threaten coastal biodiversity. The programme also notes ELF’s 305th consecutive weekly mangrove cleanup drive, with logistical support from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).
