Police recover a stolen Toyota Hilux valued at R700,000 on the N1 near Polokwane during an anti-smuggling operation. The vehicle is reported to be a Toyota Hilux Legend Edition that had been reported stolen in Tshwane. Authorities say the operation is intelligence-driven and targets vehicles believed to be destined for cross-border movement, with the Hilux allegedly heading to Beitbridge. The vehicle is intercepted on the N1 outside Polokwane, where officers stop and recover it and arrest a 45-year-old suspect. Police describe the action as part of wider efforts to prevent smuggling and continue investigating the case. Investigators are also looking into possible links to a cross-border vehicle smuggling syndicate, based on information about the vehicle’s intended route and circumstances of the theft. The recovered bakkie is held as evidence while the matter remains under investigation.
