Julian Alvarez says he wants to leave Atletico Madrid this summer, adding pressure to the club as several major teams remain linked with the Argentina forward. Atletico have previously set a high standard for any sale, insisting that any buyer must pay his reported €500 million release clause, rather than negotiate a lower fee. Alvarez made his position clear after Argentina’s World Cup win over Austria, telling ESPN that he spoke with the people he needed to speak with and that “the best thing for everyone is a transfer,” as he aims to “fulfil [his] dream.”

Spanish reporting cited by Metro also says Atletico are not working on a deal with Barcelona and are instead attempting to engage with Arsenal over a potential swap. One proposal described involves Alvarez moving to Arsenal for a package including €60 million plus Viktor Gyokeres. Atletico are said to view Gyokeres as a better fit for their style and also as a possible route to facilitating the exit of Alexander Sorloth, who is reportedly wanted by Juventus and Napoli. Alvarez has drawn interest including from Real Madrid and Barcelona, and Real Madrid has been reported to have made a €150 million bid earlier this month, which Atletico rejected.
