Authorities in San Enrique, Negros Occidental report a resurgence of African Swine Fever (ASF) that has led to the death of more than 500 pigs. Mayor Jilson Tubillara says the outbreak affects all 10 barangays in the town. Laboratory tests confirm that ASF is the cause, with results reported on Monday and verified by local authorities. The provincial government, including Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, adds that ASF cases are confirmed through local laboratory testing and the Bureau of Animal Industry. The outbreak is reported to be concentrated in the southern part of Negros Occidental, and Lacson says it affects more than one percent of the province’s pig population.
In response to the outbreak, local authorities impose border controls and strengthen biosecurity measures to reduce the risk of further transmission. The measures aim to contain the virus and prevent it from spreading to other areas within the province and beyond.
