A 22-year-old passenger is killed in a stabbing incident aboard a Western Railway Churchgate–Nallasopara fast local train. Police say the victim, Mayank Lohar, was travelling in the first-class compartment of Train No. 90663 when an argument broke out with another passenger during heavy rain over keeping the coach door open. The train departed Churchgate at around 10:05 p.m. and the incident occurred between Andheri and Borivali stations. According to the Government Railway Police, Lohar and the accused were in the same first-class compartment.
Western Railway authorities report that they receive information about the incident at about 11:04 p.m., a few minutes before the train reaches Borivali. RPF, GRP and a medical response team reach the coach within about three minutes. The injured passenger is evacuated to the emergency medical room at Borivali station, examined by a doctor at 11:22 p.m., and then shifted by ambulance to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali on medical advice. Despite treatment, police say the victim dies.
Police register a murder case and launch a manhunt. Investigators examine CCTV footage and gather information from passengers, while authorities state the accused fled after the attack, jumping from the moving train near Platform No. 6 before it came to a halt.
