The Department of State Services (DSS) releases Nura Idris, a farmer from Kaduna State, after an internal review finds no evidence linking him to Boko Haram. Idris, from Soba Local Government Area, was arrested in Suleja, Niger State, in 2024 following allegations of terrorist links and was handed over to the DSS. After a review by a panel, the DSS determines that there is no basis for the accusations and orders his release. DSS Director-General Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi approves the decision and also authorizes compensation of N3 million to help Idris rebuild his livelihood and farming business. Following his release, Idris says he received humane treatment in detention and expresses appreciation for the DSS leadership, adding that the payment will support his restart. Security sources and the DSS indicate that the service is reviewing older cases to ensure individuals who are not connected to terrorism are not kept in custody longer than necessary. Reports cited by outlets say more than 30 people have already received over N300 million in compensation as part of the exercise.
