Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launches the cooperative mobility platform Bharat Taxi in 14 cities across Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Surat, Dwarka, Vadodara, Rajkot, Somnath, Valsad, Anand, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Nadiad, Junagadh, Mehsana and Amreli. Speaking at the official launch at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Shah says some private transport service companies are using “unfair competition” to stop Bharat Taxi. He alleges that certain operators run services at a loss and cut fares to push the cooperative platform out of markets where it enters.
Shah also addresses claims that Bharat Taxi’s fares are higher, saying such reports are misleading. He points to the competitive response he says private companies are making on fares after Bharat Taxi’s arrival.
Bharat Taxi was soft-launched in Gujarat in December 2025. Shah states that the service is planned to expand to more than 500 cities across India within two years.
