South Korea’s state weather agency issues a heat wave advisory covering all of Seoul on Monday, described as the first such alert for the capital this year. The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) says the advisory takes effect at 11 a.m. and applies across Seoul. The alert also extends to other parts of the Seoul metropolitan area and to the central cities of Gongju, Cheongju, and Sejong. According to the KMA’s criteria, a heat wave advisory is issued when the maximum apparent temperature is expected to stay at or above 33°C for two or more consecutive days. One report notes that earlier heat wave advisories were issued on June 18, but only for parts of Seoul—specifically the southeastern and southwestern regions—before the coverage is expanded to the entire capital. The advisory signals that authorities expect sustained hot and humid conditions based on forecast apparent temperatures.
