The Korea Airports Corporation (KAC) launches a real-time vacant parking guidance service at Gimhae International Airport and Cheongju International Airport, starting Monday, using the TMAP navigation platform. At Gimhae, the service guides drivers to availability in the P1 and P2 outdoor parking lots, which are part of Busan’s main airport. At Cheongju, it covers the second passenger parking lot. When drivers enter a participating parking area, the TMAP app automatically switches to a “parking mode,” showing live parking availability without requiring users to install or open any additional app features.
KAC says it built the underlying data system last year by processing and standardizing vacant-spot information collected through infrastructure already installed at its parking facilities, including CCTV cameras, LiDAR scanners, and ultrasonic sensors. This year, KAC partners with T-MAP Mobility, the operator of TMAP and an SK Telecom affiliate, to integrate the airport data directly into the navigation app. KAC describes the effort as the first such service among Korean public airports and a public-private data-sharing model.
