A retaining/security wall at a building under construction collapses during heavy monsoon rain in Bhiwandi’s Prabhu Ali area late at night, in an incident captured on CCTV and also shown in video shared by IANS. Reports say the wall gives way around midnight, when residents are asleep and nearby pathways are largely empty. Local residents describe hearing a loud crash and running out in panic, but no injuries or fatalities are reported.
Sources indicate that rain weakens soil supporting the wall. Local accounts say construction activity involved excavation of soil near the foundation, and continuous rainfall erodes and undermines the base until the structure collapses under its own weight. One report adds that the collapse damages nearby sewage and water pipelines serving nearby residents.
The collapse also draws attention to structural safety during the monsoon season. An official is quoted saying the wall is old and has deteriorated, and that municipal staff are instructed to clear debris. Other reports mention broader monsoon disruptions in the region, including waterlogging, and note that the IMD issues a yellow alert for light to moderate rainfall in Mumbai and Thane over the following days.
