The Nigerian Navy says it rescues several people trapped after a building collapses in the Alakija area of Lagos State. In a statement issued in Abuja, the Director of Naval Information, Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, says the Navy receives a distress call and promptly mobilises to the scene, where it works with other emergency agencies. The Navy then evacuates victims from the rubble and takes them to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital in Ojo for emergency treatment and further medical care.
One report includes photographs showing more than 10 rescued victims, including children, receiving treatment at the Navy hospital. The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, commends the rescue team and the medical personnel, and thanks other responders and members of the public for their cooperation during the operation. Abbas also extends sympathy to the families affected and calls for support and recovery for injured victims. The Navy reiterates that it is ready to provide humanitarian assistance and support to civil authorities when required.
