Malacañang says the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) rallies in Manila do not pose a threat to the Marcos administration, even as security measures remain heightened. The Palace initially said there is “no perceived threat” because President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is acting for the public, while the INC gathering is held in support of Senator Rodante Marcoleta. The senator faces a non-bailable plunder case before the Sandiganbayan.

On Wednesday, Malacañang reiterated that it will not stop the INC from staging rallies, provided the group complies with the law. The Palace press officer warned that demonstrations should not be used as a pathway for “destabilization” or any actions that could lead to unrest.

Marcos Jr. also expressed confidence that the INC rally will remain peaceful during its second day, but he said he is wary of reports about planned agitation or possible infiltration in other areas. The INC’s rally is taking place at the People Power Monument along EDSA and at Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila, where demonstrators criticize what they call “selective justice” and “distortion of the law.” The religious group is considering extending its demonstrations until July 3.
