An adult male Indian gaur is rescued in Pune after becoming trapped between two Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) water supply pipelines near Vishranti Nagar on Sinhagad Road, Canal Road area, reported on June 30. The incident is reported by local residents around 11:51 am, prompting a coordinated rescue operation led by the Pune Forest Division with participation from Pune City Police, the Fire Brigade, PMC officials, veterinary experts, RESQ Charitable Trust, and local residents. Forest officials said the animal was tightly wedged in the confined space between the pipelines, making the rescue technically complex. After assessing the situation, veterinarians tranquilise the gaur to enable a safer operation. A crane and specialised rescue equipment are used to lift the animal out without causing further injury.

After the rescue, the gaur undergoes veterinary examination and medical clearance, with officials stating it did not have serious injuries and was in good health. Following directions from senior wildlife authorities and in line with the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, the Forest Department decides to rehabilitate the animal. It is transported in a specially designed wildlife vehicle to Bor Tiger Reserve in Wardha district and released into Compartment No. 240 of the Navargaon range, under supervision of Bor Tiger Reserve officials.
