Representatives of India’s stainless steel industry are calling for a National Stainless Steel Policy and an anti-corrosion mission to reduce corrosion costs and address reliance on imports. Speaking at an event associated with the Global Stainless Steel Expo, the Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) says the country already has the manufacturing capability and technical expertise to expand further and compete more effectively in global markets. ISSDA President Rajamani Krishnamurti states that policy support is needed to “unlock” the sector’s full potential, particularly to curb corrosion-related challenges and improve the long-term performance and durability of stainless steel applications. The industry’s position also links these measures to broader competitiveness concerns, including the pressure of imported stainless steel on domestic producers. The industry group’s proposals centre on coordinated national-level planning and targeted initiatives aimed at corrosion control, which they argue would strengthen demand and help the sector scale. The call is presented as part of ongoing industry engagement around the Global Stainless Steel Expo.
