Police in South Korea are investigating an online post that threatens an explosion at Gwangju Jeil High School in the southwestern city of Gwangju, amid controversy tied to high school baseball trash talk. The Korean National Police Agency says an investigation was launched after police and fire authorities received a report on Saturday about an online message claiming that a bomb had been placed at the school. Local police, including Gwangju Bukbu Police Station, conducted searches of the school premises following the report, but no explosive device was found so far.

Police also link the threat’s wording to a separate dispute between school baseball teams. According to police accounts, the threatening message includes language referring to the “future” of Paichai High School, apparently in connection with allegations of mockery and regional insults during a recent high school baseball tournament. Players from Paichai High School in Seoul were reported to have shouted phrases such as “Let’s go to Starbucks” and “Tank Day” toward the Gwangju Jeil dugout, which drew criticism.

Authorities are now looking for the person who posted the threat online while continuing to assess the incident.
