Mumbai’s dabbawalas suspend lunchbox (tiffin) delivery services on Monday due to incessant heavy rain across the city and surrounding areas. Multiple reports say flooding and severe waterlogging disrupt daily movement, including suburban railway operations that many dabbawalas rely on to travel with lunchboxes. The Mumbai Dabbawala Association announces that services remain halted for the day as a precautionary safety measure for its workers, citing unsafe travel conditions and impacts on some dabbawalas’ homes—particularly those in the Virar–Vasai belt, where floodwater is reported to have entered residences.

The rainfall also affects commuters and transport networks, with waterlogging at railway stations and delays on Western Railway suburban services described as making travel difficult. An IMD Red Alert for the city and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region is mentioned in one account, alongside warnings from civic authorities urging residents to stay indoors and avoid flood-prone areas. While the association notes that it has continued deliveries for over 125 years through many disruptions, it says worker safety is the priority and therefore suspends operations temporarily.
