Heavy rainfall triggers flooding in the Indrayani River at Alandi in Pune district, leading authorities to close all four bridges that provide access to the temple town. The water level rises after two days of heavy rain across the Maval and dam catchment areas, and the river inundates river ghats, with water entering areas such as Siddhabet and Mauli Bagh. Temporary facilities and riverbank setups used for devotees are also reported washed away.
Ahead of the annual Ashadhi Wari 2026, involving the departure of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj’s palkhi from Alandi on July 8 and Sant Tukaram Maharaj’s palkhi from Dehu on July 7, senior officials issue public appeals telling Warkaris and devotees not to travel to Alandi while conditions are unsafe. Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar urges pilgrims to remain where they are and avoid riverbeds, ghats, and the closed bridges, warning against rumours and urging compliance with police and disaster-management instructions. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis similarly asks people to avoid gathering in Dehu and Alandi due to bridge submergence.
Authorities also report rescue operations for stranded devotees, including evacuation of hundreds, and shift cattle from inundated areas to safer locations while monitoring weather and river levels.
