A person is killed in a shooting involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Biddeford, Maine, state officials and federal authorities confirm. Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau says the incident occurs Monday morning and reports that ICE is involved; Maine State Police and the Department of Public Safety gather details and the FBI is expected to investigate. Federal immigration authorities state an ICE agent was involved and say the vehicle attempted to flee; they add that, fearing for public safety, an officer discharged a weapon and the driver was struck and later died.

Several reports describe video footage and security images circulating online showing the moments after the shooting and the aftermath at an intersection. Additional accounts from witnesses describe the driver being shot as his car remained in the area and that emergency services were contacted. Some coverage also reports that immigrants and Latinos in the community express fear and feel less secure following the killing.

Separately, Maine Senator Angus King says Homeland Security leadership told him ICE had a warrant for a different person with a similar name, and he cites concerns raised by the governor and questions about whether ICE targeted the correct individual.
