A combustible mix of pressure, campaigning and legal reckoning defined politics today. Donald Trump escalated rhetoric toward Iran, warning that “the clock is ticking” as already-stalled peace efforts appear to harden into a new phase of brinkmanship, with reports suggesting Washington is again weighing military options. In Europe, Narendra Modi’s visit to Sweden struck a very different tone, centered on trade, technology and defence cooperation, and on broadening India’s ties with key European partners. In Latin America, Peru formally set a June 7 presidential runoff between Keiko Fujimori and Roberto Sánchez, moving past a disputed first round into what is likely to be a tense final campaign. In the Philippines, the government urged the Supreme Court to let an ICC-linked arrest process against Senator Ronald Dela Rosa proceed. And in Britain, Lisa Nandy signaled that any decision by Keir Starmer to enter a leadership contest remains his alone.
