Multiple outlets report that a large Ukrainian drone attack kills at least three people in Russia’s Moscow region, with Russian officials also reporting damage to residential buildings and infrastructure. The attacks target areas including Khimki, in the north of Moscow, where a home is hit, and the Mytishchi district village of Pogorelki, where two men die. One report also says a fourth person is killed in the Belgorod region.

Russian authorities state that air defences intercept a large number of drones overnight and into the morning. The Russian Defence Ministry says 556 drones are downed across the country. Additional reporting attributes Moscow’s defensive response to Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, who says dozens of drones are destroyed heading toward Moscow since midnight, and that injuries are reported, mainly in the area near Moscow’s oil refinery entrance. Rescuers search debris for possible additional victims in at least one location.

International coverage characterizes the Moscow-region strike as among the largest or most significant in the capital area in more than a year, while also noting that Russia is dealing with a broader wave of drone attacks affecting multiple regions.
