Politics today was defined by battles over power, secrecy and the rules of representation. The Trump administration is moving toward government-wide nondisclosure agreements for federal employees, a sweeping anti-leak effort that could carry civil, criminal and even financial penalties for disclosures to the press. In the states, redistricting fights cut in opposite directions: South Carolina’s Senate rejected a Trump-backed mid-decade congressional map aimed at reshaping a Democratic-held district, while federal judges blocked Alabama from reviving a GOP-drawn map they say intentionally discriminates on the basis of race. The Supreme Court, meanwhile, declined Florida’s attempt to sue California and Washington over commercial driver’s licenses issued to some immigrants, leaving that interstate challenge untouched. And in a reminder that modern politics often veers into spectacle, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. posted video of himself wrangling snakes barehanded at Dr. Oz’s Florida home.
