Tech news today spans both digital risk and digital ambition. The sharpest warning came from the Five Eyes alliance, which says Chinese intelligence services are using fake online job ads to lure people with access to sensitive information—turning routine recruitment platforms into potential espionage tools aimed at officials, military-linked personnel, think-tank staff and journalists. In the U.S., another investigation showed how technology and identity systems can be exploited closer to home, as ICE detained 48 immigrants in South Carolina in a fake-ID case that also brought charges against six people, including plant managers. Elsewhere, innovation kept moving: Shokz introduced new open-ear earbuds, the OpenDots 2 and lower-cost OpenDots Air, while developers highlighted how Angular’s latest tools are reshaping enterprise software design and user experience. And in Japan, PayPay made a major fintech statement, buying a controlling stake in T&D’s life insurance business to push beyond payments.
