Singapore’s durian market is moving away from the recent period of unusually low prices after a bumper harvest increased supply. Multiple sellers say the “oversupply” is beginning to ease as Malaysia’s Johor state reaches the end of its durian season. In the weeks following the harvest, consumers saw heavy discounts and promotional giveaways as abundance pushed prices down across Singapore fruit shops.
Sellers contacted by outlets describe that while durians remain available, the level of supply is no longer as high as before. One shop operator says the stock is “still there” but in smaller volume, reflecting reduced inflow from Johor. Another report similarly notes that prices have started to rise again, with sellers attributing the change to the seasonal winding down of Johor’s harvest.
Both sources characterise the situation as temporary rather than a permanent return to earlier price levels, suggesting consumers who delayed purchases during the cheapest period may see less discounted prices in the near term.
