A 65-year-old woman is arrested in Karnataka after police allege she performed a ritual involving mustard seeds on a judge’s chair inside a courtroom. Multiple reports say CCTV footage shows the woman entering the court and sprinkling “enchanted” or “consecrated” white or mustard seeds on the chair of a judge. The incident is reported to have taken place in the premises of the 1st Additional Senior Civil Judge at the JMFC Court in Chikkaballapur. Police say they register a case against her following a complaint, and they invoke the Karnataka Prevention and Eradication of Inhuman Evil Practices and Black Magic Act, 2017. One outlet identifies the woman as Manjula. After arrest, she is produced before a court and is remanded to judicial custody for 14 days, according to at least one report. Authorities describe the act as “black magic,” while the reports indicate the evidence for the allegation is based on CCTV footage capturing the woman’s actions in the courtroom.
