Film personalities and other public figures are calling on climate activist Sonam Wangchuk to end his indefinite hunger strike after his health deteriorates while he protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Multiple outlets report that the protest has extended into the late teens, with updates citing worsening medical condition, including loss of muscle mass and severe pain. Zeenat Aman urges the government to engage in dialogue rather than “sit back” and watch him suffer, while other celebrities including Soni Razdan, Shabana Azmi, Rubina Dilaik, and Ayesha Khan amplify appeals for attention to his condition.
Omi Vaidya, known for his role in “3 Idiots,” makes an emotional plea, saying he does not want Wangchuk—cited as an inspiration for the film character—to die. Reports also include concerns about blood sugar and other vitals.
Wangchuk’s protest is linked to allegations of irregularities in the NEET-UG exam and his demand for resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which supports the agitation, also announces plans for a march to Parliament on July 20.
