At Google’s I/O Connect India 2026 developer conference, the company announces a set of AI initiatives spanning education, healthcare, language access and enterprise infrastructure. For education, Google DeepMind rolls out its AI Research Foundations curriculum in India, a free 56-hour programme for students and AI developers, with support from institutions including the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and NASSCOM. Google also expands its education collaboration with India’s Atal Innovation Mission through ATL Saathi, a Gemini-powered desktop web application that helps teachers plan lessons and select experiments for Atal Tinkering Labs, with an initial rollout to 100 schools.
In healthcare, Google says researchers at AIIMS use its open MedGemma models to develop localized tools for India-specific conditions, including leprosy detection and sexual and reproductive health, and to make resulting models available to the developer community. Google also points to the National Health Authority’s use of Gemma 4 and a Medical Data Toolkit in building Aarogya Setu 2.0.
For language access, Gemini Live adds support for more than 25 Indian languages and dialects, drawing on Project Vaani resources developed with IISc Bengaluru. For enterprise customers, Google introduces options aimed at data-residency requirements, including running Gemini on Google Distributed Cloud within Indian data centres and offering Gemini 3.5 Flash through its enterprise agent and application platform. Multiple outlets describe these moves as building on existing partnerships and pilots rather than entirely new products.
