The Naveen Jindal Group says it is exploring locations in at least nine states, including Gujarat and Odisha, for planned nuclear power projects. According to a group official cited by multiple outlets, discussions are underway with state governments as the company evaluates potential sites. The locations being considered are described as mostly coastal, with candidates including Gujarat, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, as well as Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
The group’s stated plan is to develop 18 gigawatts (GW) of nuclear capacity as part of an energy diversification strategy and to contribute to India’s broader goal of expanding nuclear power capacity to 100 GW by 2047. The company says it plans to do so through Jindal Nuclear Power Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Jindal Renewables.
Sources report that site selection is based on factors such as land availability, water resources, geological and seismic suitability, transmission connectivity, regulatory readiness, and long-term project viability. The planned plants are expected to use large module reactors of 700 MW and above, with reported investment estimates and timelines referenced in at least one account.
