Warren Buffett ends his annual charitable stock gifts to the Gates Foundation for the first time in about two decades, according to multiple reports. Buffett, 95, says he will donate about 12 million Class B shares from Berkshire Hathaway to four foundations linked to his family: the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation will receive nine million shares, while the Sherwood Foundation, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, and the NoVo Foundation will each receive one million shares. The decision follows Buffett’s long-running practice of donating Berkshire stock to the Gates Foundation; sources note the Gates Foundation has received more than $47 billion in Berkshire shares since Buffett pledged in 2006.

The change comes as scrutiny continues around Bill Gates’ past interactions with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, including reviews and public discussion involving the Gates Foundation. Buffett’s statement does not mention Epstein or explain the Gates Foundation exclusion. Separately, the Gates Foundation has said it did not employ Epstein or make payments to him.

Buffett also reiterates that he aims to dispose of his remaining Berkshire shares over time, setting a deadline of December 31, 2034 for transferring the rest of his holdings to the four family-linked charities.
