Techland announces that Dying Light: The Beast will not release on last-generation consoles, canceling planned PS4 and Xbox One versions. The studio says the game was built from the ground up for current-generation hardware, and that its open world, advanced visuals, and combat and traversal systems require processing power and memory that previous-generation consoles cannot provide without major technical changes. Techland states that, although development had progressed on the last-gen builds, it ultimately concluded that delivering those versions would require compromises that would negatively affect the experience it aims to offer. The company describes the decision as difficult and says it is not simply about moving on from older platforms, but about technical limitations.

Techland also says that players who preordered the PS4 or Xbox One versions will be eligible for refunds. The game launched last year for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and earlier plans had included a last-gen release. Separately, Techland has supported Dying Light: The Beast with updates, including a free March update that adds survival-focused “Restored Land” mechanics, such as zombies being cleared from zones and resettled, with fewer supplies and higher shop prices.
