FX releases the first trailer for “The Shards,” an upcoming series adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s bestselling prep-school thriller novel. The show comes from executive producer Ryan Murphy and centers on Bret, played by Igby Rigney, as he navigates an elite senior-year setting in 1980s Los Angeles. Multiple outlets describe a group of wealthy prep-school students whose lives intersect with violence and suspicion, including the fear that a classmate may be a serial killer.
The trailer highlights the series’ tone and themes, including sex, drugs, and a missing girl, as well as coming-of-age elements. In the video, Bret appears to pitch a story to his editor, setting up the narrative that follows the students. The cast is presented across the coverage as including Igby Rigney and Kaia Gerber, along with additional performers such as Wes Bentley and Homer Gere.
Deadline reports the series is scheduled to debut on August 5, with FX unveiling the trailer ahead of that release.
