Gunmen kill the organising secretary of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Toba Ajiboye, also known as Ijaya (and referenced as Toba Ijaya). The attacks occurs on Sunday night as Ajiboye returns home from his childhood area in Fadeyi. Reports say his vehicle is intercepted along the Ikorodu Road axis, where the assailants open fire and riddles the car with bullets. Initial accounts suggest he and other occupants may have survived with gunshot wounds, but subsequent reports confirm Ajiboye later dies from his injuries.
Lagos NURTW Chairman Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, known as Sego, reacts by expressing grief and describing Ajiboye as a trusted ally and a pillar of the union’s political structure. He sends condolences to Ajiboye’s family, friends, and the wider NURTW community.
The Lagos Police Command responds by launching an intensive manhunt for the unidentified killers. The killing also prompts concern among union members and residents, with calls for authorities to intensify efforts to address violence and insecurity in Lagos.
