New Line is moving forward with “The Conjuring: First Communion,” a prequel in the horror franchise, by casting Garrett Wareing as young Ed Warren and Amanda Fix as young Lorraine Warren. The announcements come from Deadline, Variety, and ComingSoon.net, which all report the same lead casting choices for the younger versions of the paranormal investigators. The film is directed by Rodrigue Huart, who is working from a screenplay by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, according to Deadline. Variety and the trade outlets also tie the project to Warner Bros. and New Line’s ongoing Conjuring universe.

As a prequel, the story is set during the Warrens’ earlier years, returning to the characters’ beginnings rather than continuing the established adult portrayals. The new cast is replacing the franchise’s adult Ed and Lorraine, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in prior films. Multiple sources also state that the movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on September 10, 2027. Deadline notes Huart was hired by NLC to direct a short film before this feature assignment.
