The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food licences of three prominent eateries in South Mumbai after inspections found serious hygiene and food-safety lapses. The action follows inspections by officials from the Greater Mumbai Division under the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011.

One suspension was imposed on Shalimar Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. after an April inspection identified 25 major deficiencies that were not corrected even after an improvement notice. A July 13 follow-up inspection reported issues including wet and slippery kitchen floors, missing records for raw material procurement, absence of potable water testing reports, incomplete documentation on cooking oil quality, improper segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, and kitchen windows without insect-proof screens.

Noor Mohammadi Hotel in Bhendi Bazaar also received an immediate suspension. Inspectors reported thick grease deposits on kitchen floors, open windows that allowed insects (and even crows) to enter preparation areas, peeling grease-coated surfaces, unhygienic storage of raw materials, lack of supplier records, use of old utensils, missing drinking water quality test records, and inadequate pest control.

Rehmania Restaurant in Umarkhadi faced immediate suspension as well, with inspectors citing inadequate storage of food, chemicals and packaging materials, insect-proofing deficiencies, substandard equipment, missing food testing records, and failure to conduct drinking water quality tests. The FDA states it will continue strict enforcement against non-compliant establishments.
