The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) continues to place the Visayas grid under “yellow alert” on multiple days as power reserves remain tight and demand stays high. NGCP says the alerts are triggered when the available operating margin falls below the level needed to meet contingency requirements, meaning the grid can still meet demand for the time being but becomes vulnerable to outages that could lead to brownouts.

NGCP attributes the tight supply largely to the forced or unexpected unavailability of several large coal-fired power units, including multiple units at Therma, TVI, PEDC, and KSPC, as well as other coal facilities that remain offline during periods of increased demand. Reported yellow-alert windows vary by day, with NGCP advisories setting schedules such as 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Across these advisories, NGCP also reports available capacity and forecast peak demand that leave only a thin margin. In parallel, some reports note that NGCP has issued higher alert levels in parts of the country, underscoring ongoing supply constraints.
