The FBI adds Indian national Nitish Kaushal to its “Most Wanted” list, citing alleged involvement in the Bhagwanpuria organised crime group. According to the FBI, Kaushal, who is considered armed and dangerous and an escape risk, allegedly carries out acts of violence on behalf of the group, including kidnappings and assaults. The agency also alleges broader criminal conduct connected to the organisation, including murder, extortion, weapons trafficking, money laundering, and human smuggling.
The FBI states the Bhagwanpuria organised crime group originated in Punjab, India, and operated in the Central District of California and other locations. It says the Central District of California issued a federal arrest warrant for Kaushal on June 25, after charging him with racketeer influenced and corrupt organisations (RICO) conspiracy. The move follows “Operation Hard Ball,” an international enforcement action aimed at dismantling the Bhagwanpuria gang, which involved raids and law enforcement steps across the United States, Canada, and Europe.
The FBI urges the public to report information through local FBI offices or U.S. embassies and consulates.
