Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, asks the British High Commission and the wider international community to closely monitor the upcoming August 15, 2026 governorship election. He makes the request during a courtesy visit by a British delegation to the APC Campaign Office in Osogbo. Oyebamiji says heightened international observation is meant to strengthen public confidence as concerns rise about alleged political violence, intimidation, and “thuggery” directed at APC members and supporters.

He alleges that attacks on APC members have occurred since 2022 and says the party has documented more than 40 cases across different parts of the state. He cites incidents in Osogbo, Ota Efun, Ilesa, Irewole and Otan Ayegbaju, and references what he describes as the kidnapping and murder of an APC ward treasurer during the 2023 presidential campaign. Oyebamiji says the party has reported the matters to the police and urges security agencies to investigate impartially and prosecute offenders.

The British delegation reportedly met Governor Ademola Adeleke the day before, following which both sides made allegations about political violence and sought responses, with the APC accusing the governor of misleading the delegation.
