Russian rider Nikita Shulchenko captures the overall title of the MPTC Tour of Luzon after defending his lead into the final day and finishing with enough time to secure the champion’s purse of P1 million. Across the 14-stage race, Shulchenko’s position is strengthened by results in the penultimate stage, where he places second in the individual time trial. Kyeong Ho Min wins that time trial over 20 kilometers, finishing in 25 minutes and 39 seconds, with Shulchenko 22 seconds behind. That time trial contributes to Shulchenko stretching his advantage, including support from Antoine Huby’s overall position at the time. On the final stage in Baguio, Huby wins the race, crossing the line at Camp John Hay in 4 hours, 26 minutes, and 42 seconds. Shulchenko completes the final lap 2 minutes and 12 seconds after Huby, which is sufficient to withstand Huby’s late challenge and take the overall crown. Multiple reports describe the finish as contested, but they agree Shulchenko’s earlier cushion ultimately decides the title.
