Singapore launches a new defence volunteer network under the Singapore Defence brand, with the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) saying it aims to increase the pool of civilian volunteers to about 3,000 over the next three to five years. The initiative brings together a range of existing and organised volunteer efforts into a single network designed to expand recruitment and participation.
MINDEF says the network creates capacity for nearly 400 additional volunteers as an initial step. Over time, the larger effort is intended to raise the overall number of volunteers, effectively doubling the pool from current levels.
According to MINDEF, the new SG Defence network consists of 10 civilian volunteer schemes. Taken together, these schemes provide the structure for scaling volunteer numbers and coordinating civilian participation in support of Singapore’s defence needs.
