The Metropolitan Police say they have arrested a man in his 20s after an alleged social media post threatened to shoot Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. The threat, reported by multiple outlets as coming from an earlier post on X (Twitter), said: “I’m going to shoot you in the head if you win.” Police state the post was reported to them on 8 May and that detectives sought access to the user’s contact information from a social media platform. After the information was returned, officers arrested the man at a residential address in south London on 14 July, holding him in custody overnight before he was bailed pending further enquiries.
Reports also note that the alleged offence relates to the period around the UK local elections, and that Farage was an MP for Clacton at the time. The Met Police do not name Farage in their statement, referring only to a “Member of Parliament.” Some coverage adds that police are considering whether the suspect’s actions were linked to targeting Reform UK MPs, in the wider context of recent security concerns affecting current and former politicians.
