Lahore’s district administration has sealed Sozo Water Park in Batapur after a nine-year-old girl died following an incident involving a drainage pipe. According to police and officials cited by Dawn and the Express Tribune, the girl allegedly became trapped after the park administration started draining a swimming pool while children were still in it. Police say suction from a high-capacity drainage pump pulled the child into the drainage pipe, where she was stuck. Rescue teams searched for about 40 to 50 minutes before she was found trapped and could not be revived.

After the incident on Monday, the district administration sealed the facility and suspended park activities, while initiating legal action over alleged negligence. Batapur police registered a criminal case under Pakistan Penal Code Section 322 (causing death or harm without intention) on a complaint filed by the girl’s mother. The complaint names the park’s manager, security in-charge, and CCTV in-charge. Dawn reports that the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) says all three nominated suspects have been arrested, and an investigation is underway into the circumstances, including whether safety measures—such as installing a safety net over the drainage pipe—were ignored, and who should be held responsible.
