MTV’s reality competition series “The Challenge” is officially moving to Paramount+ for its next season. Multiple outlets report that Season 42, titled “The Challenge: Cutthroat,” becomes a Paramount+ original and will premiere on August 5. The show is set to use a weekly release schedule, with new episodes dropping at 12 a.m. PT / 3 a.m. ET. Deadline and Variety add that the upcoming season features both rookie competitors and returning veterans competing together. The Season 42 competition is reported to take place in Thailand. The announcement follows the franchise’s broader streaming expansion, including earlier spinoffs such as “The Challenge: All Stars,” which premiered on Paramount+, as well as a version that aired on sister broadcast network CBS. The outlets also note that “The Challenge” previously aired on MTV before the move. Trailers for the new season are being released alongside the premiere announcement, previewing the new “Cutthroat” theme as the format continues with established competition elements and a mix of cast members.
