Dale Vince, a green energy entrepreneur and Labour donor, is set to receive damages from the Daily Mail publisher after the Court of Appeal rules in his favour. Vince brought legal action against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) over a June 2023 article that, according to his claim, used his photograph alongside a headline suggesting a different person. The article was published under the headline “Labour repays £100,000 to sex pest donor,” which Vince said created a misleading impression for readers.
Both outlets report that the Court of Appeal decision finds Vince experienced an “obvious injustice” due to the headline and image juxtaposition. The reporting also states that Vince has been involved in Labour donations, including more than £5m over several years, and that he sought damages through the legal process after earlier proceedings did not resolve the issue in his favour. The decision on appeal indicates the court views the publication’s presentation of the photograph with the headline as unfair. The publisher’s liability is therefore upheld, and damages are expected.
