OpenAI has released its first Codex-branded hardware device, the Codex Micro, described as a shortcut keypad for people who use Codex to work with AI coding agents. Multiple outlets report that OpenAI previously teased the product and now ships it as a collaboration with Work Louder, a hardware maker known for customizable mechanical keyboards and developer shortcut controllers.

The Codex Micro is a small desktop macro pad designed to sit beside a user’s regular keyboard. It provides physical controls for monitoring and managing Codex agents. Reported features include backlit keys, a rotary knob, and a joystick, which can be used as part of on-device controls. Sources also note that the keys are customizable and can include functions such as push-to-talk, along with a control intended to adjust a “reasoning” setting.

All accounts describe the device as niche and aimed at Codex power users, with limited availability. The price is reported as $230, and outlets say it is available only until it sells out. OpenAI engineered the device for Codex workflows using Work Louder’s hardware design.
