Nigeria’s headline inflation rate eases to 15.91% in June 2026, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), which reports a slight decline from 15.93% in May. The NBS attributes the overall drop to a slower increase in the average price level compared with the previous month. On a month-on-month basis, the headline inflation rate is 1.66% in June, down from 1.75% in May.
While headline inflation declines, food inflation continues to rise. The NBS reports that food inflation reaches 17.52% year-on-year in June, up from 16.96% in May. On a month-on-month basis, food inflation increases to 3.75% in June from 2.98% in May, indicating ongoing pressure on household spending related to essential food items.
Across states, the reports highlight differences in food-price pressures. Food inflation is highest in Kogi, Niger and Benue on a year-on-year basis, while Katsina, Rivers and Imo show comparatively slower increases. By month-on-month changes, Katsina, Kebbi and Niger record the highest food inflation rates, with Borno, Benue and Bayelsa among the slowest.
