The Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) declares a road inside Azam Khan’s Jauhar University campus as a public road, citing unrestricted public access. According to reports, the PWD has installed signboards at the university’s main gate stating that the 3-km, four-lane road built by the department in 2016–17 is open for public use. Multiple outlets say access to the road has been blocked since 2019, after the university administration closed the main gate. At the same time, the issue remains tied to an ongoing legal dispute between the PWD and the university. The department says it is pursuing legal action, seeking an early hearing to secure public access to the road. The reports describe the PWD’s declaration as a formal administrative step while litigation continues, and note that the university’s restrictions on entry have been in place for several years.
