Building on the idea of the Hertzsprung-Russell (HR) diagram—an established tool in astronomy that plots stars’ temperature against their luminosity to show how stellar properties relate to different stages of life—the new work aims to provide an analogous framework for non-stellar objects. In a paper by Gabriel Steward and Matthew Hedman, the authors focus on mapping objects using measures related to their density and mass. Their goal is to create a coherent “visual map” that can link different categories of cosmic bodies under a consistent representation, extending the usefulness of HR-style diagrams beyond stellar astrophysics.
