The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrests the managing director of Karnataka Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals Limited (KAPL), Bengaluru, Anurag Danayak, after an alleged bribery trap in Noida, officials say. The CBI says Danayak demanded an undue advantage of about ₹15 lakh from a Madhya Pradesh-based firm, M/s Pharma Care, which acts as an authorised service agent for KAPL and supplies medicines to government institutions in the state. According to the agency, the demand is linked to pending processes including the renewal of the service agent agreement and consideration of additional institutions for the firm, for the current financial year, as well as a reported cut related to commission from medicine sales. The CBI states Danayak is caught red-handed while accepting ₹5 lakh as part payment of the total demanded amount. Searches are carried out at the accused’s residential and office premises in Bengaluru, Noida and Jabalpur, the sources report. The CBI says it seizes about ₹75 lakh in cash and foreign currency worth about ₹4 lakh, and also gold jewellery and coins along with property documents from Danayak’s Noida and Bengaluru locations.
