Vice President Kashim Shettima says Nigeria “has no business being poor,” speaking at the Agric, Development and Investment Summit in Abuja on Wednesday. In his keynote address, he argues that Nigeria has the resources and capacity to prosper. Shettima points to Indonesia as an example, saying that in 2025 Indonesia earned far more revenue from oil palm than Nigeria earned from crude oil, citing figures related to volumes exported and the resulting earnings. He also highlights Nigeria’s potential for marine and agricultural value chains, stating that the Niger Delta has rich resources and describing activities such as mariculture and fish farming, including products like fish and other seafood. According to Shettima, these opportunities show that money can be generated through activities in different parts of the country and that Nigeria can aim to become among the richest nations. The reports present his remarks as a call for greater investment and development aligned with Nigeria’s agricultural and resource endowments.
