The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) says a Tesla driver overrode the vehicle’s driver assistance system before a fatal crash in Texas. According to the NTSB’s preliminary findings, a 2025 Tesla Model 3 was being driven in Katy, Texas, in mid-June when it left the roadway, crossed onto a driveway, and struck a residence. NBC News reports the crash occurred weeks after an earlier public account involving a woman’s death tied to a Tesla operating under Full Self-Driving features, and says the driver overrode the driver assistance mode and accelerated into the building. The Independent similarly reports the vehicle was speeding after the driver overrode the self-driving or advanced driver assistance system, citing the NTSB’s conclusion. The Hill also cites the NTSB’s preliminary findings and identifies the driver as 44 years old. Across the reports, the NTSB’s central finding is that the driver took control or bypassed the automated assistance functions prior to the impact.
