OnePlus confirms a software-strategy change in which OxygenOS is being retired in favor of Oppo’s ColorOS. Multiple outlets report that, after the official release of Android 17 and the rollout of ColorOS 17, eligible OnePlus smartphones worldwide will be offered the option to voluntarily update to ColorOS. OnePlus says the transition is intended to streamline its software development and share engineering and R&D resources with Oppo, which it describes as a unifying step for update delivery and software quality.
The reports also describe how support will continue despite changes in market operations. OnePlus is reported to be winding down operations in North America (including the US) and Europe, consolidating more closely under Oppo’s structure. Existing customers in exited markets are said to keep receiving software updates, security patches, and applicable support. For devices that fall outside the Android 17/ColorOS eligible upgrade scope, OxygenOS maintenance support is described as continuing on older models, while newer devices will need to move to ColorOS for continued support. One source also notes that users who update to ColorOS may be able to roll back to OxygenOS, depending on future official announcements.
